IN A GROUND-breaking decision on illegal building in Spain, a British couple living on the Costas has been handed an eight-month jail sentence for building a house on protected land - plus they have been fined and are forced to demolish the house.

Owners of home build illegally on the Costa Blanca are deeply concerned for the outcome of their cases after learning about ruling made by a court in Málaga on the Costa Del Sol
Ten years ago, the couple bought over 1,400 square metres of land in an area classified as unsuitable for building but where there was already a 30 square-metre ruin that was later turned into a two-story villa.
